Carl Leighton-Pope

Carl Leighton-Pope’s career traces the arc of modern British music and live entertainment itself, from Soho’s Marquee Club in the 1960s to arenas, theatres and West End marquees more than half a century later.

He began in 1964, aged just 18, working at the legendary Marquee, where a young Rod Stewart, The Who and Eric Clapton were regular fixtures. A Mod on a scooter, shopping in Carnaby Street as it became the epicentre of London’s cultural revolution, Leighton-Pope was already embedded in the world that would define his life’s work.

In 1972 he opened a recording studio in South Wales and took on management of Sassafras, signed to Chrysalis Records, producing three albums and touring extensively across Europe and the United States. By 1976, a return to London marked the start of an agency career that would quickly become formidable. Early signings included Patti Smith and The Motors, alongside major American acts such as Styx, Journey and Huey Lewis. Within two years, Dire Straits, Simple Minds, UFO and Wishbone Ash had joined the roster, establishing Leighton-Pope as one of the most influential agents in Europe by the end of the 1970s.

The 1980s saw his client list expand to include Bryan Adams, Climax Blues Band and Matt Bianco, as well as the signing of Van Morrison and Bonnie Tyler. In the 1990s, he found and produced The Chippendales, touring them extensively across the UK and Europe and building a global touring phenomenon.

As the new millennium arrived, his reach broadened further, representing artists such as Michael Bublé, Billy Ocean, Jeff Healey, Keith Urban, and Chris Rea, while also bringing major international entertainment brands, including WWE Wrestling and the Harlem Globetrotters, into his portfolio. Bublé and Ocean remain clients to this day, a testament to relationships built over decades rather than deal cycles.

Alongside music, theatre has become an essential strand of his creative life. He co-wrote and produced Carnaby Street – The Musical, a celebration of the London scene that first shaped him, and is preparing the West End premiere of his new play Love in 2026. Carl’s theatre investment company has also supported INK, Blithe Spirit, Hadestown and The Years, making him an associate producer by royal appointment

Philanthropy has run in parallel with his professional career, with long-standing support for charities such as Tickets for Troops and Nordoff Robbins. Today, he works closely with his daughter and three sons, making Leighton-Pope’s story not only one of longevity, but of legacy.

A keen golfer and lifelong sports fan, Carl Leighton-Pope remains as busy as ever. Still driven by the same curiosity and instinct that first took an 18-year-old Mod through the doors of the Marquee Club and into a life at the heart of popular culture.
